Questioning the Canon

Questioning the Canon
Project Brief:

Throughout history, there are many unsung heroes across all walks of life. The world of graphic design is no stranger to this. While reading through Megg's: History of Graphic Design, I felt there was missing something, or someone in this case. The objective is to create an editorial spread that would showcase an unsung graphic designer who deserves a spot in Megg's: History of Graphic Design. I will use the grid and work with set column widths to experiment with the different tools that InDesign has to offer. Text wrap is important so I want to make use of this function to create an engaging and innovative layout of two spreads for this graphic designer.
The Idea:

Researching this topic was very captivating to me. I never thought I'd be creating spreads that would advocate for someone to be included in a history book. I went back to my roots and chose Jorge Gutierrez. His stylistic traits are reminiscent of traditional Mexican Art and create a nostalgic theme across all of his work. His ability to recognize the and accept the criticisms calling work "fake art" inspired me and instilled a sense of pride while reading about his life. I strongly believe he deserves a spot in this book.
Process:

I used Adobe InDesign to create two spreads that showcased a mock interview with Gutierrez. I took a few of his popular works and incorporated them into the spreads in a tasteful grid layout. I made use of the excellent guide system InDesign utilizes to create uniform columns of text and visually appealing reading material. Overall this was a fun little project that created a talking point for many not-so-known graphic designers.
Solution:
Megg's: History of Graphic Design spread for Jorge Gutierrez
Megg's: History of Graphic Design page for Jorge Gutierrez
Megg's: History of Graphic Design page for Jorge Gutierrez
